writing & poetry

I have no formal training as a writer, nor did I ever consciously plan to be a writer — it's just something that innately happens when I feel passionate and clear (even as a kid). The words just come. My hope is that what I write sparks meaningful conversations, answers questions you didn't know you were asking, and makes you feel seen in ways that help put the puzzle of who you are together.

When put in the context of my overall work in the world, my writing offers up a thread... something to pull on and follow, for those doing the work of inner and outer revolution. It's a guide for the "where to start, where to go, and how to get there" questions. And it's a reminder that you aren't doing this alone. Things in our world need to change — that's what we're here for.

Walk with me.

Join the movement.

Let's get real.

Whether it arrives as a blog post, a framed poem, or one of the books — it's all the same thread. Something to pull on. Something that says: you are not alone in this, and it matters that you're here.

blog

Named 'Kindred Connections', the blog is a place where it’s less about perfection, and more about relate-ability. It’s about seeing yourself in these words — be it in the ways we’re the same, or, where we’re different; in the ways our bodies may not always cooperate, and the world doesn’t always understand us — but living free of shame, guilt and a sense of unworthiness.

Whilst my artwork writings are deeply curated — every word deliberate and deliberated — the writings in Kindred Connections are more raw, unfiltered and wild with their amateur-like delivery. I hope you find a thread of connection in the shared humanity of these experiences.

artwork

My poetry and framed artworks have a range of themes, encompassing self-love, self understanding, feminism, ageing, inner knowing, and social justice. The pieces that get chosen to become artworks hold the stage on their own, they don't need the context of me, other pieces, or any understanding beyond their own essence. Because of this, they are often some of my fave and most potent  pieces of writing.

Check them out in the online shop (via the button below), and pop your name on my email list (HERE) to know when my next in-person gallery exhibition is on.

books

For the last (far too many!) years I've been curating and collating a selection of my writing into books. This curation naturally evolved itself into three connected, but distinct, books — each representing a stage of the healing, inner growth and social awareness arc that many folks I know take.

They are reaaallllyy close to being finished, so if you wanna get updates as they open up for pre-order (or if, like me, you're nosey and you just wanna see what they'll even look like), pop your name on the waitlist on the 'Books' page.

let's make magick.

I stand with these communities:

Inclusive image of the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, Trans, Non-Binary and Palestinian flags.

I deeply value inclusion & accessibility, and am committed to showing up for those values in practical and emotional ways, in both a personal and professional capacity.

I, Aliesha Bannister, acknowledge that I live and work on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation — sacred Country that continues to offer healing, vision, grounding, and inspiration. I honour the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of this land, and pay deep respect to their Elders — past and present — as well as all knowledge holders.

For over 65,000 years, Aboriginal peoples have cared for these lands, waterways, and skies through deep, reciprocal relationship. This connection was never ceded. I stand with First Nations peoples in their ongoing fight for justice, recognition, and sovereignty. I am guided and inspired by the wisdom, culture, and spirit that continues to flow through Country, and I long for a future where this knowledge is not only respected, but re-centered in the collective life of this place.

Always was, always will be — Aboriginal land.
