My Top 5 Tips for Connecting to your Intuition (the Inner Knowing kind)

pink lotus flower with green leafy background. Part of the blog by Aliesha Bannister about tapping back into your intuition.

There’s a lot of conversation about intuition — how to access it, strengthen it, or “trust it more.”

For many people, the challenge isn’t because of a lack of intuition. It’s the pace, noise, and mental load we're bombarded with, on the daily, that make it hard to hear what’s already there.

Inner knowing isn’t something to develop or perfect. It’s a relationship to cultivate, over time — through presence, gentleness, and attention.

These five practices aren’t shortcuts or quick fixes, but rather, they’re ways of softening back into connection, and remembering how to listen. That's how you get there.

Here are my Top 5 Tips for connecting to your intuition:

Connecting to Intuition Tip 1: Slow down

Like everything.

Slow. Yourself. Down.

This is the first step, and it’s non-negotiable.

Rushing around — busy, ungrounded, unintentional, distracted — is kryptonite to cultivating inner awareness and connection.

The world we live in is noisy, and much of it is designed to sever intuitive connection. Your inner knowing needs space, time, and presence to communicate with you.

Slowing down, even just a small amount each day (and building on it over time), is how we begin to re-connect to those inner whispers and guidance.

Connecting to Intuition Tip 2: Journal

Now, I know journaling isn’t for everyone, but it is a powerful way to move underneath surface-level mind chatter and into the clear knowing that lives below it.

I've found that the key to journaling is finding your style — a writing practice that helps you see or feel beyond the mind — and then returning to it regularly.

Remember, this is a gentle practice. It’s not about immediate answers or sudden clarity. Over time, journaling cultivates re-connection and trust in your inner knowing.

Connecting to Intuition Tip 3: Notice how things feel in your body

For example — when someone asks you something, or when you say yes or no to a question.

Noticing isn’t about judging your choices. It’s about gently reflecting on how you felt when you answered, and then observing how that direction unfolded for you.

Often, when we begin this journey, we realise our inner knowing was trying to guide us — but we overrode it with that pesky thinking mind.

Noticing these internal patterns is one of the fastest ways to strengthen intuitive connection.

Connecting to Intuition Tip 4: Pay attention to your world

As you practice steps 1–3, begin to notice how the world responds to your choices.

The support will likely feel subtle at first.

Small, easy to dismiss as coincidence.

But when those 'coincidences' start happening consistently, they become harder to ignore.

It’s a kind of positive feedback loop — as you choose in alignment with your inner knowing, the world gently reflects that alignment back to you, encouraging you to keep listening.

Connecting to Intuition Tip 5: Have a trusted guide to support you

Promise I’m not just saying this because I work in this space.

You don’t need anyone else to guide you — but support can be deeply helpful, especially if your mind prefers the comfort of well-worn paths (aka safety mind), making it harder to soften into trust.

A good guide doesn’t sit above or ahead of you. They walk alongside you, reflecting your own inner knowing back to you.

Over time, this kind of support should strengthen your connection to your own power and sense of Self — not train you to rely on someone else for answers.

Finishing note:

You don’t need to do all of these at once.

In fact, intuition tends to respond best when it isn’t being managed, 'optimised' or rushed.

If one of these practices stood out to you, start there.

You can always weave in the others as you go along.

Let it be simple.

Let it be imperfect.

Let it unfold slowly.

Inner knowing grows clearer not through effort, but through relationship — built over time, through small moments of listening, noticing, and trust.

Your inner knowing isn’t lost — it’s waiting for space.

Much love,

I stand with these communities:

I, Aliesha Bannister, acknowledge that I live and work on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation — sacred Country that continues to offer healing, vision, grounding, and inspiration. I honour the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of this land, and pay deep respect to their Elders — past and present — as well as all knowledge holders.

For over 65,000 years, Aboriginal peoples have cared for these lands, waterways, and skies through deep, reciprocal relationship. This connection was never ceded. I stand with First Nations peoples in their ongoing fight for justice, recognition, and sovereignty. I am guided and inspired by the wisdom, culture, and spirit that continues to flow through Country, and I long for a future where this knowledge is not only respected, but re-centered in the collective life of this place.

Always was, always will be — Aboriginal land.
